The Game Where the Few Decide the Many

Minority rule is a common election rule. But there are cases where the minority decides the majority or the minority rejects the majority.

I need to stress that I don’t mean anything against or question the election rules of any country or people, I was just piqued by this math question to explore the pure numbers game a little.

Talk to NewBing about Turkish elections

I inquired about the Turkish elections via new Bing and the AI was witty enough to refuse to answer my question, which could easily lead to trouble.

Replace events with math problems

So I switched to the following math problem and new Bing replied with the obvious result.

Losing the majority and the meaning of justice

If B promises to share more rewards to C if he wins in order to win, then C is likely to end up giving the points to B and helping B win. (b) Then, looking at A alone, A originally has the most points, so A definitely loses;
and B does not end up with all the rewards, necessarily giving up a not insignificant benefit or cost to C, so B is at most a small winner;
C originally had the least number of points, but ended up with a reward that far exceeded expectations.

For A, the most capable player, it is a fiasco; for B, a moderate player, it is a small win; and for C, the least deserving player, it is a big win.

What is the point of the game?

Of course, there are cases where “the minority is right,” but is that a problem for something as important as an election?
