Saturday, October 7, 2023, Tel Aviv, Israel.
Suddenly, air defense sirens sounded in the city, anti-aircraft missiles whistled, and explosions were heard in the air. The Israelis have long been used to this, with Hamas rockets and Israel’s Iron Dome battling it out for a few rounds on a daily basis. The Iron Dome stops most, if not all, of the rockets, and the Israelis live in peace.
After the Iron Dome system intercepted a few rockets, a rocket suddenly landed in a residential neighborhood at 10:23 a.m. local Israeli time.
On the American side, there was no warning.
Smoke rose to the sky and people froze. Time seemed to stand still, and sound seemed to stop spreading until another rocket landed in a residential area and people scattered.
Was there something wrong with the Iron Dome system? Probably not.
The guess was that Iron Dome’s carrying capacity was limited, and saturation strikes were beyond Iron Dome’s response.
An hour later, at 11:23, a reacting Netanyahu approached the defense minister. The Israeli army entered a state of war, marking the official outbreak of war.
The United States, for its part, did nothing.
The defense minister has been given authorization to call up reservists, and the air force is out continuously. The spokesman said that Hamas must be made to pay a huge price.
Shortly after the spokesman finished speaking about making Hamas pay, there was a sudden jamming of radar and detection at the border, and Hamas waltzed into Israel and began a ground attack.
Another hour later, at 12:23 a.m., Hamas hit an Israeli military camp.
For its part, the United States did nothing.
In just a few hours, under the cover of thousands of rockets, Hamas ground forces managed to fight their way out to some localized advantage. Israel’s Health Ministry says the new Gaza conflict has left more than 100 dead and 908 wounded in Israel.
Israel, one of America’s closest allies, seems to have lost all of the intelligence systems of both countries in this attack.
At this point, the Americans finally moved.
U.S. Defense Secretary Austin said the U.S. would make sure Israel “has everything it needs to defend itself.”
Blinken told Israel’s foreign minister that the White House was releasing a $4.5 billion emergency aid package to Israel, financed largely by an emergency diversion of aid intended for Ukraine. The Pentagon said it would send weapons and missiles to Tel Aviv starting on the 8th. The main source of supplies was intended to be shipped from Poland to Ukraine at the time.
Biden also intends to start an aid program for Israel. The U.S. is on the move, the world is about to be on the move.
Starting tomorrow, the world’s strategy will be adjusted in response to Hamas’s shocking actions.
